Höchenschwand is particularly appreciated by its guests because of its panoramic position! Particularly impressive here is the distant view of the Alps and the locations that are free from all sides ... with wide forests and many hiking trails! This is what it says in a Black Forest guide from 1876, well over 100 years ago! This is still fully true today. Höchenschwand has been a climatic health resort for over 50 years. Höchenschwand, the "village in the sky", consists of the central town and ten districts. What they all have in common is the incomparably beautiful location on a south-facing high plateau and the magnificent view. Everywhere here you will also experience the uniquely mild stimulating climate and an above-average amount of sunshine - especially in the autumn and winter months. And the high purity of the air in this region deserves special mention!

Today Höchenschwand is a popular health resort with all tourist and health facilities as well as first class hotels, pensions, guest houses, holiday apartments and private rooms. Outpatient preventive and rehabilitation cures (open spa cures) are also offered. Important specialist, rehabilitation and private clinics are available for therapeutic treatment.

Höchenschwand occupies a special position due to its incomparable panoramic position in the Black Forest: Located on a wide, open, slightly south-sloping high plateau, it offers unhindered access to the sun! The Höchenschwander high plateau is framed by two deeply cut valleys, the Alb and the romantic Schwarzatal. The diversity of this landscape and the alternation of open, flat plateaus and wooded valleys give both the elderly spa guest who prefers flat walking and hiking trails and the sporty hiker ideal opportunities to move in the pure air of the Höchenschwander landscape. In autumn and winter in particular, when the valleys sink under a thick blanket of fog, hikers can experience a magnificent alpine panorama on the Höchenschwanderberg in glorious sunshine, which stretches from Säntis to Mont Blanc! The hiking paradise around Höchenschwand makes many enthusiastic hikers regular guests every year. A topographical hiking map published by the health resort administration with varied hiking suggestions offers many suggestions for experiencing nature on shoemaker's pony ...!

A good mood and good entertainment belong together! That is why there is an extensive program of events for the guests throughout the year, which is selected with great care by the spa administration.

The house of the guest with its impressive wooden construction is the glamorous focus and social setting of the Höchenschwander events. All rooms are bright and friendly and offer a wonderful view of the Black Forest landscape!

In the large Kursaal with stage, spa concerts as well as slide and film evenings are organized throughout the year. There are also folk and folklore evenings, farmer's theater, special guest performances, fashion shows, club festivals ... and much more! Newspapers and magazines are available in the small hall. There is a wide selection of games for children and families - and of course for those who love to play! TV and video are also available. The Haus des Gastes also houses a restaurant with a large open terrace. This way, hungry and thirsty visitors also get their money's worth. Hospitality is very important in Höchenschwand, and it comes from the heart! The guest has a variety of cozy restaurants to choose from - from rustic country inns to fine specialty restaurants ...

If you want to do something extra for your health during your holiday in addition to relaxation through active sporting activities, you have made a good choice with Höchenschwand. Here the guest is offered a variety of spa, sports and leisure facilities. Added to this are the sports and entertainment programs organized by the spa administration for Höchenschwander spa and holiday guests. Experienced sports and guest supervisors ensure that the event is carried out correctly and professionally. There are guided hikes, the sports tennis hall, a tennis school, indoor swimming pools, Kneipp footbaths, a fitness trail and much more. Especially popular with young and old is the pleasantly tempered forest swimming pool surrounded by greenery with a heated lounger hall and extensive sunbathing lawns. Swimming here is fun in all weathers. An ideally located tennis facility has four clay courts with a clubhouse. Friends of the "white sport" will be particularly pleased that tennis guests are always welcome.

Experience nature…

Admire the rare plants on a walk through the Tiefenhäusler Moor nature reserve, enjoy the play of colors in nature in the Höchenschwander high moor... Discover brown trout in the crystal-clear spring streams and learn to understand nature better on the forest nature trail or on a guided tour of the forest. In the large protected forest area, learn how in the cycle of nature commercial forest becomes “primeval forest” again. Enjoy when the sun lets the Alpine peaks shine in the morning red with a distant view. In Höchenschwand you can experience the wonders of nature up close!

And if it rains ...

Finally time for: ...a trip to Freiburg, Basel or Zurich (only an hour's drive each). Or for a visit to one of the many great art history or local museums in the holiday region. Enjoy relaxing hours in the thermal baths of Bad Säckingen or Zurzach (Switzerland), go shopping in the Höchenschwander shops, take part in our bowling afternoon or tea dance, simply read a good book from the lending library! Sauna, solarium, massages and baths, beauty farm... we never get bored! By the way: Especially in rainy weather, with the right clothing, hiking on the many wind-protected paths in the high forest around the spa town is a recommended nature experience!

Enchanted winter landscape ...

Pure air, snow-covered fir trees, a bright blue sky, glorious sunshine, gliding on narrow boards through the glittering snow - this is the happy alternative for those who spend their winter holiday in Höchenschwand! All of this makes you quickly forget the fog and the cloudy weather at home.

In Höchenschwand there are a number of sun-facing cross-country ski runs, which are prepared to the best of the “cross-country” guest. The magnificent view of the Alps is free.

The Loipenhaus trail (895 - 1017 m) with a well-equipped trail house leads south to Tiefenhäusern. Total length 12 km, elevation gain 100 m, degree of difficulty 'easy'.

The Kreuzstein trail (920 - 970 m) touches the districts of Strittberg, Amrigschwand and Attlisberg. Total length 5,5 km, elevation gain 100 m, degree of difficulty 'easy'. => Connection to the Schwarzahang trail.

The Schwarzahang trail (820 - 970 m) leads, as the name suggests, along the slope high above the Schwarzatal. From here you have the most beautiful views of the Schwarzatal. Total length 14 km, elevation gain 300 m, level of difficulty 'moderate'.

... and after the cross-country ski run we go to a cozy inn (perhaps with a tiled stove!) or to dance, swim or go to the sauna...! Höchenschwand is also ideal for winter hikers and walkers. Because here we have thought not only of skiers but also of those who “just because” want to experience the magic of the Black Forest winter in the pure, clear winter air. And that's why a whole number of walking and hiking trails are cleared here, some of which are right on the doorstep but also lead out into the open countryside. They are particularly popular not only with older guests, but also with families with children. The Höchenschwand ski school is there Cross-country skiing– & Alpine ski courses, and if you have left your skis at home, you will find a large selection at the local ski rental shop. A family ski lift and the children's toboggan run are located directly on the outskirts of town. How about a little excursion on boards or on foot to one of the Höchenschwander districts? There are cozy country inns there too, because the clear, pure winter air makes you hungry and thirsty! By the way, the “Höchenschwander Tannenzäpfle” are up to mischief during Fasnet. And if there is no snow...a winter holiday in Höchenschwand is still a special experience. Due to the altitude above the inversion layer, there is usually a wonderful view of the Alps and the distance with clear, pure air and long periods of sunshine. With these advantages given by nature and in conjunction with the available sports and leisure facilities, as a spa and holiday guest you simply cannot miss the missing snow!
