Oberried is located at the gates of Freiburg and is picturesquely situated in the mountains of the Black Forest. St. Wilhelm, Zastler and Hofsgrund belong to the municipality.

How to find Oberried

The center of Oberried is located in the southern Dreisamtal, from where the associated farms stretch up to the highest mountains in the Black Forest. The Oberrieder Tal and the little river Brugga are just as much a part of it as the “Notschrei” pass. To the east you will find the Zastlertal with the Osterbach and the St. Wilhelmer Tal in the direction of the Feldberg. Hofsgrund, also part of the municipality, is located in the hollow that formed south of the Schauinsland peak.

The alley farm mill, which is more than 250 years old, is definitely worth seeing. The mill stood still for a long time, but it is thanks to many hard-working hands that the citizens' association, which has done a great job, was able to successfully complete the renovation. The loving mill room allows tourists to immerse themselves in times past, when there were 15 grain mills in the woodcutting community of Zastler, which were operated by water power. Viewings are possible today by prior arrangement.

"Glück auf" in the museum mine

Also a museum mine is available in the municipality of Oberried. It is called “Schauinsland” and that is what it is largest mine in the Black Forest. People have dug for ore here for over 800 years and used it to build 22 floors underground.

Contemplative visits

The monastery church of the Coronation of the Virgin Mary is reserved for the more tranquil holiday season. After trials and tribulations, the monastery and the church got their present form around 1730. In addition to the parish church of the Coronation of the Virgin Mary, the premises of the complex also house the parish and the town hall of Oberried. Surrounded by glorious greenery, this feast for the eyes is highly recommended.
