Characteristics

Location: Hornisgrind
Suitable for prams: partially

At 1164 meters high, the Hornisgrinde is the highest mountain in the northern Black Forest. It is located in the north of the Ortenau district. On the summit of the Hornisgrinde there is a 206 meter high transmission tower of the Südwestrundfunk in reinforced concrete construction, which was built from 1971 to 1972. The frequencies sent from there cover large parts of the Rhine Valley Freiburg and Darmstadt and, due to reflections, can sometimes be received as far as central Switzerland.
