Characteristics

Location: Hornisgrinde
Suitable for prams: partially

The Hornisgrinde is 1164 meters high highest mountain of the Northern Black Forest. It is located in the north of the Ortenau district. On the summit of the Hornisgrinde there is a 206-meter-high transmission tower of the Südwestrundfunk in reinforced concrete construction, which was built from 1971 to 1972. The frequencies transmitted from there cover large parts of the Rhine Valley Freiburg and Darmstadt and, due to reflections, can sometimes be received as far as central Switzerland.
