A fairy tale from the Black Forest

The Black Forest has many stories, one of which is the fairy tale “Maria dances” by Andreas Venzke. Once upon a time there lived Maria, daughter of Wolf Schneller, at the Schniederlihof below from Schauinsland. She was married to Benedikt Geißer, a man who treated her no better than a piece of cattle. But Maria found love and warmth in the arms of Hans Baumgartner, a young farmhand from the neighboring farm.

When her affair was discovered, Maria was expelled from the church. But her love for Hans was stronger than social conventions. They found a hiding place in an old tunnel in the area, where they met secretly.

“Maria dances” is a fairy tale of love, courage and hope. She reminds us that true love knows no boundaries and that the most beautiful dreams are often hidden in the most unlikely places.
