St. Peter has retained its rural character. More than a third of the approximately 2.300 inhabitants live outside, on stately farms that are scattered around and have survived undiminished for many centuries. The double-towered baroque church of the former Benedictine monastery still visibly transmits the climatic health resort. None other than Peter Thumb created this masterful work.
There's probably no better way to relax than hiking, especially in a landscape that offers so much captivating variety: Deeply carved into the ridge that rises gently to the Kandel (1243 m), our local mountain, are the valleys of the Glotter, the Eschbach, the Ibenbach, and the Zweribach. The nature reserve around the Zweribach, with its rocks, wild and romantic waterfalls, and primeval forests, is particularly impressive: The forest has been declared a protected area and left to its own devices.
Numerous well-maintained and well-marked hiking trails open up the beauty of the Black Forest landscape to you. One of the Black Forest Association's main routes, the Kandelhöhenweg, leads from Oberkirch over the Kandel through the Sägendobel to St. Peter and on to Freiburg im Breisgau.

From north, south and west:
BAB-A 5 (Frankfurt - Basel) to Freiburg North, about Glottertal to St. Peter (approx. 20 km).
From the east:
BAB-A 81 (Stuttgart – Singen) to Donaueschingen, via B 31 to hind tenders, B 500 to Thurner, then country road to St. Peter (approx. 60 km).
By train:
Take the train to Freiburg-Hbf. (20 km), or to Kirchzarten (12 km), continue with bus no.7205 or 7216.
