Oppenau is an enchanting climatic health resort in the middle of the Black Forest. Around the city there is a magical mountain world, which is appreciated by many excursion guests for cycling, hiking or relaxing.

Here you can experience a wide range of sports and leisure opportunities. Tennis, gliding or swimming are just a few options. Oppenau has a wide network of hiking trails with a picturesque landscape. One tip is the Renchtalsteig, which is 100 kilometers long and leads to many beautiful places. The cozy taverns offer you the excellent cuisine of Baden. The winter carnival, the Oppenau city festival at the end of August and the BaWü Airgames at Whitsun are great events.

History of Oppenau

Oppenau was founded during the 12th century. The city still has some natural and cultural monuments from this and the following centuries that are worth seeing. The partially preserved city gates are the All Saints monastery ruins in the Gothic style, the impressive All Saints' Day waterfalls including the rockfalls from 100 meters in height or the Gothic ruins of Allerheiligen monastery. The Renchtäler Heimatmuseum is located in the town hall of Oppenau and shows a compilation across the history of Oppenau including the Black Forest. You can also see the very popular folk costumes from the Black Forest.

Those who like to play actively can enjoy the pleasant leisure pool including beach volleyball, a giant slide, tennis facility, a small golf course and lawn chess. The cultural associations of Oppenau put on a varied program with concerts, dance and entertainment evenings. Guests without a car can use the Renchtalbahn in Oppau, because this connection is a branch line of the railway connection from Basel to Frankfurt. There are also good connections in local and long-distance transport by train and specially coordinated post bus routes.

Winter sports enthusiasts are available at the nearby Black Forest High Road some ski lifts are available for skiing. Cross-country skiers can also let off steam on various trails. The high-altitude trails around the city allow extensive ski hikes and tours with a lot of variety. But winter is also relaxing here for those who are not so ambitious in terms of sport.

All Saints' Day waterfalls

The Allerheiligen waterfalls are among the highest and most impressive waterfalls in the Black Forest. They are embedded in the mountains Hundskopf, Schliffkopf and Schwabenkopf and fall steeply in several cascades to almost 90 meters. Together with the old monastery ruins, the waterfalls are a popular destination, especially during the summer months.

Book head tower

The Buchkopf Tower is located on a mountain called Buchkopf, which towers over the Maisach Valley. Here you have a beautiful view of the Rhine and Renchtal.

Leisure pool

In the leisure pool there is a giant slide of 58 meters, massage jets, bubble beds, gargoyles, a lazy river, a water mushroom and sports such as badminton, basketball, table tennis and table football. Bathers will find handicapped accessible toilets, showers and changing rooms as well as a cafeteria, which offers a large selection of drinks and food. There is something for everyone here.

City gate

The city gate was once called Schwabentor and Lierbacher Tor. It contains a coat of arms of Prince-Bishop René von Rohan von Strasburg (1734 to 1803).
