The popular and well-known Linach Dam is located in the Southern Black Forest Nature Park. The impressive dam wall is definitely worth a trip and the surrounding area with the dense mountain forests impresses with its wonderful landscape. The dam is nearby Vohrenbach and can be circumnavigated on the hydropower nature trail.

History of the dam

Construction began between 1922 and 1925. Due to hyperinflation, the whole thing got into financial difficulties and construction was stopped for many years. The project was restarted in 2005 and completed at the end of 2007. In 2008 the Linachtalsperre was completely dammed and declared a public space for the population and tourists.

Notable facts about the Linachtalsperre

The arched concrete row stone wall is 25 meters high and 143 meters wide. The building is the only one of its kind in Germany and is a listed building. Today, the dam is an important means of generating environmentally friendly electricity. Approximately 300 to 400 households can currently be supplied with the generated energy.

The power plant building at the starting point has been renovated true to the original and is now open to the public as a technology museum.

If you prefer to be told the information, you can take a tour of the power plant building or around the dam. A ticket for adults costs EUR 3,00 and for children EUR 1,00. The money goes to the support association of the Linachtalsperre. With a route of 3 kilometers in length, the circular route around the lake offers full relaxation as an alternative or afterwards.
