.. is the historic capital of Alsace, a region in north-eastern France. The city is the capital of the Alsace region and the prefecture of the Lower Rhine department (Bas-Rhin). The prefecture also administers the two arrondissements Strasbourg-Campagne and Strasbourg-Ville (from 1871 to 1919 the districts “Strasbourg (country)” and “Strasbourg (city)”), they consist of 8 and 10 cantons respectively. Strasbourg is the core city and largest municipality in Alsace, Bas-Rhin and in the Strasbourg municipal association (CUS) and has around 650 inhabitants in the metropolitan area.
