The Hohengeroldseck castle ruins are located in Seelbach, in the district of Schönberg. The small but charming themed trail, the " Geroldseck Castle Trail ," with stations for children about knightly life in the castle, makes the climb entertaining.
Founded in 1260 on the porphyry rock of Schönberg above the pass road between Lahr and the Kinzig valley, from then on ancestral seat of the Lords of Geroldseck.
Replaced after 1594 by the early baroque residence Schloss Dautenstein.
Destroyed by French troops in 1688, from then on ruin.
