Full steam ahead to the lake
The steam locomotive-hauled special trains of the IG 3-Seenbahn have been running since 2008 in August. The starting point of the trips is the Seebrugg museum station, the track system of which the association was able to take over from the railway in 2009. The aim of the activities of the members is to renovate the station's facilities, which are largely in their original state, and thus to preserve an entire station with all facilities in the style of the 50s. This is unique in Baden-Württemberg. The old water crane could be placed on its old foundation through a fundraising campaign in which numerous railroad fans from near and far took part. The steam locomotive that pulls the museum train can now replenish your supplies in proper style. In addition, in addition to various other construction measures, the large side loading ramp was completely renovated. Many visitors regularly visit the construction progress at the Seebrugg Museum Station.
The members of the association are particularly pleased that, after more than two years of negotiations, the old Höllentalbahn electric locomotive E44 1170 has been brought back from Siegen to its former home. This veteran locomotive, built in 1944, pulled trains from Freiburg to Seebrugg from 1960 to 1979. It is to be restored to working order and will then be available alongside a steam locomotive for museum trains. The nostalgic electric locomotive will also be permitted to travel to Freiburg via the steep Hirschsprung-Hinterzarten section. These trips are firmly planned by the association.
Until the association has renovated the track and can operate its own rolling stock through the Black Forest, a borrowed train will run on four weekends each summer. These trips always begin with the weekend of the Lake Night Festival in Schluchsee and run for four weeks. During this period, passengers can travel on the steam train between Seebrugg, Titisee, and Löffingen . In addition to these trips, the moonlight excursion after the fireworks display on Saturday evening of the Lake Night Festival is a special highlight. Furthermore, a historical festival takes place in Seebrugg on one of these four weekends each year.
