The Schutterwald art initiative offers a number of events, including the "Hofkultur", an exhibition that takes place every two years over Easter and has gained notoriety far beyond the community boundaries. The Rathausgalerie shows changing exhibitions, which can be found on the city's website. And finally there is the "Art on the Lake", also an initiative of creative locals. The town offers further recreational opportunities through landscape protection areas and the "Unterwassermatten" nature reserve. There is a barbecue area directly on the Schutter, which is popular with both locals and tourists. There is also a three-kilometre-long educational forest trail. The environment is inviting

Not far from Schutterwald there are many attractive tourist destinations, such as the Blindensee in Schönwald, a high moor lake in the nature reserve that has neither an inlet nor an outlet. The almost circular lake offers rare plants on the shore and is almost a little scary to look at with its unfathomably dark water. The bottom of the lake is completely boggy. Benches invite you to rest on long hikes.

A wonderful cultural monument is the Reinertonishof in Schönwald. With a mill and granary, it is a perfect detour into the past. The rebuilt farm is the oldest family-run ham smokehouse, dating back to the early 17th century. In addition, handicrafts can be viewed and there are changing exhibitions as well as carriage rides and horseback rides on request.
