The Schwarzenbach dam is located at a height of 668,5 meters between the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse and the Murgtal on the L 83, around 10 km from Forbach.

With a length of approx. 2 km, the Schwarzenbach dam is the largest reservoir in the northern and central Black Forest. The water is conducted in underground and above-ground pressure tunnels and pipes to generate electricity to the Rudolf-Fettweis-Werk (EnBW) in Forbach. Due to its idyllic location, framed by Black Forest mountains, the lake is a popular destination in summer and winter. An approx. 6,5 km long circular path leads along the north bank and in the forest above the south side around the Schwarzenbach, at its beginning at the dam wall, some information boards explain the history of the dam. There are also numerous attractive destinations in the area around the lake and can be reached with a hike or mountain bike tour. The view from the barrier wall into the valley below or out onto the lake is impressive. A boat rental in the immediate vicinity of the wall invites you to take a boat trip and bathing and swimming in the Schwarzenbach dam is a refreshing experience in summer. For those who like it a little quieter, we recommend a fishing trip to the lake.

The Schwarzenbach dam can also be easily reached by public transport. The bus line 263 between Forbach and Buhl serves the dam several times a day. If you are arriving by tram (S41) and are not afraid of a not too long but steep walk, we recommend the journey to Raumünzach and the approximately 4 km long hike to the bottom of the Wall. Under the hiking tips you will find further suggestions on how to get to the Schwarzenbach.
