Location: Neubulach

Mining around Neubulach began almost 1000 years ago, at the time when the Black Forest was finally settled in the 11th century. Initially only carried out as an opencast mine in Pingen (funnel-shaped depressions), underground silver mining experienced its first major boom in the 13th century. The best yield from the Neubulacher mine was between the 13th and 15th centuries, i.e. at a time when there was no gunpowder for blasting and lighting was only possible with pine chips and torches. Today the climatic health resort of Neubulach in the Black Forest offers its guests a pleasant freshness. The visitor mine is a weather-protected and at the same time refreshing excursion destination. A 45-minute underground tour of the tunnel provides information about the history of medieval mining in the Northern Black Forest and the origin and use of the ores mined in Neubulach.
