Characteristics

Location: Guttenbach
Suitable for prams: ja

It is not an exhibition of the conventional kind, but the exhibits are embedded in a suitable environment. This is illustrated, among other things, by the part “Life, living and working of the Gütenbachers”, i.e. Black Forest watchmakers. One feels literally drawn into the time before and after the turn of the century. An active homeland and history association had set itself the task of presenting the life of their ancestors in an impressive and realistic way to the descendants in the region, but also to the coming visitors. Güterbach in the Black Forest was once a thriving watchmaking town. It all began shortly after the so-called Kreuzbrüder vom Glashof near St. Märgen produced the first wooden wheel clock around 1630. With simple means and tools, attempts were made to make clocks from local wood, but relatively unsuccessfully.
