The Hohengeroldseck castle ruins are located in Seelbach in the Schönberg district. The small but nice themed trail with stations for children about the life of knights at the castle make the ascent entertaining.
Founded in 1260 on the porphyry rock of Schönberg above the pass road between Lahr and the Kinzig valley, from then on ancestral seat of the Lords of Geroldseck.
Replaced after 1594 by the early baroque residence Schloss Dautenstein.
Destroyed by French troops in 1688, from then on ruin.
