The Black Forest cake could even achieve world fame and is served with coffee in the world's largest metropolises. Camping holiday in the Black Forest

Besides the hotel, camping is probably one of the most popular overnight accommodations. Far more than 50 campsites can be found in the Black Forest, all of which are convincing due to their unique location. These vary in terms of equipment, of course, ranging from natural spaces to luxury campsites with a pool, entertainment and wellness center. As an alternative, campers also have mobile home parking spaces, which are open to travelers in the Black Forest and allow more flexibility in travel planning. If there is neither a parking space on a campsite nor a parking space available, there is the possibility in Germany to spend the night in designated parking spaces or even at the roadside. It should be noted, however, that this option actually only serves to “restore fitness to drive”.

What is the difference between a campsite and a pitch?

Especially for beginners when it comes to camping, the difference between a campsite and a pitch is not immediately obvious. There are a few basic criteria that distinguish them: A campsite is a fenced and often guarded area. The pitches for mobile homes, caravans and tents are always associated with costs and the facilities are designed for several overnight stays. Campers also have to decide on an arrival and departure day, have a direct contact person on site and, depending on the campsite, can fall back on a very comprehensive service. The campsites have a wide range of sanitary facilities and many leisure options. Setting up an awning is permitted on a campsite.

Spending the night on a pitch can be made very flexible, as the pitches can only be booked in advance in very rare cases. Accordingly, it can of course happen that all parking spaces are already occupied on arrival, especially in the summer months. The actual overnight stay is not associated with any costs, only the electricity and water consumption are billed. Billing is usually done via a machine. The parking spaces are only intended for short stays, which is why there is only one contact person by phone for many, sanitary facilities are not always available and the construction of awnings is prohibited. The lower level of comfort is offset by the largely free use.

Basically, campers need to consider the pros and cons when planning their trip. Parking spaces are more suitable for a tour that allows for a certain degree of flexibility. However, regions like the Black Forest can also be explored excellently from a campsite.

Wild camping or parking?

So-called wild camping is not allowed in Germany. There is the possibility to spend a night on the side of the road, if this serves to restore the driving ability. Full campsites and parking spaces must not be used as an excuse during a control. Basically, it is a matter of interpretation and as long as campers do not cross the threshold permanently, it is possible without any problems. A similar rule basically applies to parking lots. But especially in cities there is often a strict ban that must be taken into account.
