By bike through the Black Forest - pure active vacation

The Black Forest is a popular holiday destination for active vacationers. For hikers and cyclists there are countless opportunities to do sports in this region. And by the way, you can also discover numerous cultural highlights in the ancient cultural landscape of the Black Forest. If you want to combine Black Forest culture and tradition with an active holiday, the best way to do this is to take a bike tour on the Black Forest Panorama Cycle Path.

Location, route and length of the Black Forest Panorama Cycle Path

The gold town of Pforzheim is located on the northern edge of the Black Forest. The city is the ideal starting point for cycling through the Black Forest, which is why Pforzheim is also called the gateway to the Black Forest. On the Black Forest panorama cycle path that begins here rides the sporty cyclist from Pforzheim on paved bike paths across the German low mountain range to Waldshut-Tiengen on the Swiss border.

The total distance is approx. 276 kilometers. Experienced bikers need about 21 hours for this. But the Black Forest Panorama Cycle Route is not the Tour de France. In order to explore and really get to know the natural landscape of the Black Forest in its unique diversity, with its numerous gorges and valleys, the rolling hills and the picturesque villages by bike, we recommend the route in several stages (e.g. 6-7 days) to be completed. Then you have enough time to discover the numerous sights of the Black Forest region in addition to the sporting activity.

1st stage: Bad Wildbad to Enzklösterle

Length of the route approx. 37 km, driving time approx. 2:50 h

The cyclist starts at the beginning of the tour in Pforzheim and initially follows the Enz Valley Cycle Path upstream to Bad Wildbad and Enzklösterle. The first stage ends in the blueberry village of Enzklösterle, which lies in the midst of lush green meadows and mighty fir forests at an altitude of 600 m

2nd stage: Enzklösterle to Lossburg

Length of the route approx. 44 km, driving time approx. 3:30 h

After a hearty breakfast, the tour continues through the Poppeltal uphill to Seewald-Besenfeld and on the high path along the Murgtal to Freudenstadt. A highlight of the city is the largest converted market square in Germany. On the lower market square it is worth taking a gastronomic break at the Speckwirt. Cyclists can regain their strength with Swabian delicacies and Alpirsbacher Klosterbräu beer. The route then runs through the forest to Loßburg. The second stage ends in the picturesque climatic health resort of Loßburg. There is a wide range of accommodation in Lossburg. If you really want to relax and unwind, you can also let yourself be pampered in one of Loßburg's comfort hotels.

3rd stage: Loßburg to Villingen

Length of the route approx. 51 km, travel time 3:50 hours

From Loßburg it goes through woods and meadows, past many old hamlets and farms, to Schramberg-Sulgen. Here the cyclist can refresh himself with a cold beer or a glass of wine in one of the rustic beer gardens. From Schramberg-Sulgen, the route leads mainly downhill through the towns of Hardt, Königsfeld and Mönchweiler to Villingen. The 3rd stage ends here. In one of the numerous restaurants in the historic city center, you can finish with a long meal and recharge your batteries for the next stage and let the day end in peace.

4th stage: Villingen to Titisee

Length of the route approx. 53 km, driving time approx. 4:05 h

The 4th stage runs comfortably along the small river Brigach to the hamlet of Beckhofen. From there it goes uphill into the Breg valley. The tour leads through the valley downstream to the Zährer town of Bräunlingen and from there upstream along the Brändbach, past Kirnbergsee (Brändbachtalsperre), up to the 1.084 m high Höchstberg. This is also the highest point on the entire route. From above it goes through Schwärzenbach and Langenordnach down to Titisee. The 4th stage ends here.

5th stage: Titisee to Stühlingen

Length of the route approx. 61 km, driving time approx. 4:40 h

From Titisee to Neustadt and from there on the Bähnleradweg Lenzkirch until after Bonndorf. In the Black Forest town of Bonndorf, you can take a short break. Then it goes down into the valley of the Wutach and along the river to Grimmelshofen, a district of Stühlingen. From there it is not far to Stühlingen itself. The 5th stage of the panorama cycle path tour ends in the climatic health resort of Stühlingen. Once there, at the end of the day, it is worth visiting one of the museums or stopping off in one of the cozy inns before giving yourself a well-deserved sleep

6th stage: Stühlingen to Waldshut

Length of the route approx. 30 km, driving time approx. 2:20 h

The last stage leads relaxed downstream to Waldshut-Tiengen. This is the end of the Black Forest Panorama Cycle Path. After one last night in Waldshut, it's back home. To make the last evening unforgettable, we recommend a visit to Bistro New York at the end. The long-established pub with a nice ambience also serves small snacks such as the typical ham baguette. With hearty rock music and a freshly tapped beer, you can look back on the successfully completed Black Forest tour.
