Characteristics

Location: Saint Peter

Founded i. In 1093 by Zähringen Duke Bertold II, as a house monastery and burial place, today's climatic health resort with many desirable facilities was built around the monastery over the centuries.

St. Peter offers you numerous accommodation, relaxation and entertainment options.

Get to know a gem in the Black Forest: the romantic, state-approved climatic health resort of St. Peter. You will feel at home here! It is located in an almost fog-free altitude, the landscape is characterized by the alternation of forest, fields and pastures.
St. Peter has retained its rural character. More than a third of the approximately 2.300 inhabitants live outside, on stately farms that are scattered around and have survived undiminished for many centuries. The double-towered baroque church of the former Benedictine monastery still visibly transmits the climatic health resort. None other than Peter Thumb created this masterful work.

There is probably no better way to relax than hiking; especially in a landscape that offers so much delightful variety: deeply cut into the ridge that goes up to Kandel (1243 m), our local mountain, rises gently, are the valleys of the Glotter, Eschbach, Ibenbach and Zweribach. The nature reserve around the Zweribach with its rocks, wild and romantic waterfalls and unspoilt forests is particularly impressive: the forest has been declared a “Bannwald” and is left to its own devices.

Numerous well-tended and well-marked hiking trails open up the beauty of the Black Forest landscape to you. Also one of the main routes of the Black Forest Association, the Kandelhöhenweg, leads from Oberkirch over the Kandel through the Sägendobel to St. Peter and further on Freiburg.
