From Italy to the Wadden Sea: Why Rømø is a paradise for dog owners

Content:

We love the south – the delicious food, the sunshine, and that special feeling of life. But as experts in Danish holiday homes, we at Esmark also know that when Tuscany gets too hot in the height of summer and the beaches on the Adriatic are often too crowded for our four-legged companions, the north can be a refreshing alternative. We want to show you why the Danish island of Rømø offers just the right contrast that will make your heart (and your dog's) beat faster.

When the South becomes a challenge

A holiday in Italy embodies the dolce vita, culture, and vibrant coastal towns. However, traveling with a dog often presents challenges: mandatory muzzles on trains, limited dog-friendly beach areas, or simply the heat, which makes longer excursions difficult. Rømø offers a striking contrast. Instead of narrow streets and scorching asphalt, you'll find breathtaking expanses – including one of the widest sandy beaches in Europe.

There's a special feeling of freedom when you walk for miles along the tideline with your dog. To help you fully enjoy this time out, we at Esmark offer you the perfect solution. Holiday home on Rømø with dogHere, your four-legged friend is not only tolerated, but warmly welcomed.

More freedom instead of strict rules

While in Italy you often have to search for the perfect "dog-friendly beach," on Rømø almost the entire beach is accessible to dogs – only the sections with the "Blue Flag" are off-limits. From April to September, your dog can enjoy the wind in its ears and the fun of splashing in the waves on a long leash. From October 1st to the end of March, your dog can even run around completely off-leash on the wide beaches. And there's another detail that makes everyday life easier: you can drive right up to the beach.

For those seeking even more freedom of movement, the island offers several fenced dog parks – for example, near Lakolk or in the tranquil Kirkeby Plantation. These are places where your dog can simply be a dog.

Hygge is the new Dolce Vita

The North also holds its own when it comes to indulgence. Instead of hustle and bustle, on Rømø you'll find the Danish concept of "hygge"—that calm, warm feeling of coziness. After a day on the North Sea coast, there's hardly anything better than relaxing in your own holiday home: perhaps with a glass of wine in front of a crackling fireplace, in the sauna, or with a warm soak in the whirlpool.

Many of our houses have a securely fenced garden. This allows your dog to romp around while you relax in a deckchair and enjoy the fresh sea air. At Esmark, we ensure that your holiday in the north feels just as easy and enjoyable as an evening with wine and pasta – only with more peace and quiet and a fresh North Sea breeze.
